Tradition of ATHLETICS in Louny and its neighbourhoods

In Louny and its neighbourhoods, athletics has a long tradition reaching far beyond the World War II. Under aegis of different institutions and leadership of many remarkable people, several talented athletes started their sport careers in Louny.

In 1983, Petr Kopecký and Radovan Šabata formed an athletic club TJ Elna Počerady under the aegis of the Počerady Power plant. In 1984, Josef Frolík and Radovan Šabata were among the founders of the international juniors‘ athletic tournaments of the partner towns of Louny (Czech Republic), Lučenec (Slovakia), Zschopau (Germany) and Salgotarján (Hungary), the tradition of these tournaments is still alive.

ASK Elna Počerady follows the ideas of its predecessors; the athletic club keeps on teaching young people to enjoy and love sports, promotes athletics in the Louny region and organizes athletic events and competitions: the club organizes the Spring Cross Country, the tradition of which reaches to 1966. It is the founder of the 15 km road running race from Počerady to Louny, which was in 1993 opened for wheelchair participants as well. In 1994, the ASK Elna club launched the tradition of the CEZ Grand Prix athletic event for juniors that has gained much popularity since. And last but not least, the club continues the education and training of young athletes.

This is the Louny athletics in a nutshell. We are happy to welcome you among us, whether you become our members, fans or web site goers.
